Kayla Dunbar (she/they) is currently living on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As a 1st generation Scottish Settler, Kayla’s love of storytelling was cultivated from a young age in dance, singing and acting lessons. After graduating from Langley Fine Arts Secondary, she went on to graduate from Studio 58, where she received the Sydney J. Risk award/scholarship for outstanding skills in acting.

Since then, she’s worked for: Delinquent Theatre, Savage Society, Urban Ink, Bard on the Beach, the Pull Festival, Chemainus Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, City Opera, The Elbow, Itsazoo, Zee Zee Theatre, Gateway, TUTS and more. Kayla has been nominated for 12 Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards. In 2019, she received a Jessie for directing Elephant and Piggie’s: We Are In a Play at CTYP and was nominated for movement direction for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime at the Arts Club. 

Most recently, Kayla went to Toronto to remount the acclaimed Delinquent Theatre production Never The Last at Theatre Passe Muraille, she choreographed Break Horizons: A Concert Documentary at the Transform Festival, directed a short film of the musical What’s Your Wish with Children’s Theatre of Richmond, and created/directed a new piece at Studio 58 called The Wax In His Wings with Anton Lipovetsky.

Currently, Kayla is prepping to direct a workshop production of Kaitlyn Yott’s new TYA show, Raven and the Starseeker this fall 2026.

Kayla is committed to: a continued education on anti-racist practices, courageous leadership, allyship, troubling the status quo, and using her privilege to be of great service to her community.

Kayla is also a proud Mama to a spirited toddler, and a wife to her wonderful partner, Seb.
